Mercer Alternatives operates as an investment firm. The Firm provides advisory services, as well as offers customized and pooled investment solutions across various asset classes including private equity, debt, infrastructure, real estate, and hedge funds.

What can you expect:

You will provide day-to-day Legal support to the AIFM business in Luxembourg. The role will primarily focus on providing support and guidance around the management of legal, regulatory and other business risks. 

Reporting to your line manager, the role will be multi-faceted and fluid, requiring an individual that is enthusiastic, hardworking and eager to learn, preferably with a legal background in addition to strong organisational, collaboration and communication skills. The successful candidate will be able to assist the AIFM’s Conducting Officers to fulfil their oversight obligations as well as work on the evolving legal projects with the AIFM and wider business

We will count on you to: 

  • Support the AIFM’s Conducting Officers and wider business in product manufacturing (including fund structuring) 

  • Provide support to the AIFM’s Conducting Officers in their oversight function. Ensure appropriate initial due diligence process is applied during service providers on-boarding (depositaries, central admins, transfer agents etc) as part of new fund structuring and implement periodic reviews (regular and ongoing due diligence). Draft specific reporting and present to governing bodies. 

  • Act as peer reviewer for colleagues; participate in document reviews

  • Maintain the AIFM’s monitoring / tracking reports

  • Organise and maintain all core legal/business documents

  • Support the AIFM’s conducting officers in liaising between the department and outside counsel in connection with corporate governance and regulatory inquiries.

  • Support the overall legal activities of the AIFM

    

What you need to have:  

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English (German is a plus)

  • Degree in law or finance related subject is a plus

  • Minimum of three years’ experience relevant to the role, with a fund industry, law firm, or audit background 

  • Understanding of AIFMD regulation and the financial services environment in Luxembourg (and additional jurisdiction(s) is desirable); Technical knowledge of fund structures, parties to the fund and the different fund types

  • Self-motivated team player and ability to work independently; strong sense of ownership, paying attention to detail and ensuring high-quality deliverables within set timelines

  • Strong organisational skills; excellent communication, presentation and collaboration skills; ability to present to internal and external parties

  • Strong analytical skills to review and analyse information/ situations to identify, articulate the issues on hand and propose solutions

  • Excellent project management skills

  • An ability to multi-task and work under pressure to deadlines

  • Champions collaboration within an organisation to achieve shared vision

  • Positive can-do attitude essential
